Long Term Care problems Solved
Ask the expert, Dennis H. Lentin
What kind of assistance do I receive at home if I only need a little help?
Most policies are triggered when you require assistance in two of the six
activities of daily living. The six ADL’s are: bathing, dressing, toileting,
continence, transferring and eating.
Usually the first level that help is needed for is bathing and dressing. Here
is where it is most important for you to check your policy. The best policies
state that you are entitled to either ”hands on” assistance or “standby” assistance.
Some policies state that the assistance must be “hands on”, while
a great deal of policies do not define assistance. Where assistance is not
defined, you have to wait until after you need help, to determine what level
of help your insurance covers.
