Long Term Care problems Solved
Ask the expert, Dennis H. Lentin
I thought that I might not be able to secure a Long Term Care policy due to poor health. My agent found a company that would take me, does that mean that I probably find a cheaper policy if I looked around?
It has been my experience that sometimes people who are not in the best health,
who want Long Term Care Insurance, and finally do obtain a policy, then become
over confident.
As an example, we had obtained a policy for a gentleman 82 years old with
Leukemia. Due to his age and condition there was one company who would issue
him a policy. When this gentleman received his policy, he decided that he could
get any policy and exercised his right to cancel. He listened to another agent
who told him he could get him issued from another company that had just entered
the Long Term Care industry.
I pleaded with the gentleman not to cancel his policy until another company
had issued him another policy. Of course he did what a great deal of Floridians
do, and that is consult with the “experts” around the swimming
pool. He was told that if one company will issue him, all the companies would
issue him. What happened? He was not issued a policy, and has since tried to
apply to twelve other companies, who also declined to cover him. He then tried
to apply to the company that had originally covered him, only to learn that
they would no longer accept his health condition.
He later told me that the “experts” by the swimming pool did not
know what they were talking about.
